MY manifesto

the poems must be based on a true story
day after day I act in a way I can write about
even about that day I went to the old quarry
this is when the truth can come out

I write it and read it for my sister
she always read me stories as a child
I said "tell me a story before I go to bed mister"
jumping up and down going wild

waking up in the middle of the night
sitting in my dining room
thinking with all my might
silence in the air, not even playing a tune

a place where capitals are dismissed
I own the pen, I am the commander of this ship
frantically thoughts run through my mind in a list
heck let loose, make a story and go skinny dip

  1. I love the idea that you act in a way you can write about--makes you sort of the author and narrator of your own life. Some of stanza 2 & 3 read like the rhyme is in charge, not you. But a strong conclusion. "Heck" seems an awfully quaint oath in the last line--you're the captain, so say what you really mean!
